Problem

This is in response to . This example shows how to edit a treeview with GtkTreeModelSort.

How to edit items in GtkTreeView - using built in treeview edit - Part 3 with GtkTreeModelSort?

Solution
  • Editing a treeview with GtkTreeModelSort is no different than the method as described in How to edit items in GtkTreeView - using built in treeview edit - Part 1?.
  • The "trick" is when updating the values back to the model, we cannot just update the value to the GtkTreeModelSort. The GtkTreeModelSort is a virtual model. We have to update the base model that holds the real data.
  • To get the iter of the base model from the iter of the modelsort, we make use of GtkTreemodelsort::convert_iter_to_child_iter(). Yes, it's a bit strange, but gtk calls the base model "child model."
  • Once we have the "child iter", we can proceed to update the value back to the "child model" (i.e. the base model).

Explanation

This example makes use of the code in How to edit items in GtkTreeView - using built in treeview edit - Part 1? and How to sort treeview using GtkTreeModelSort?.

What's new here:

  1. Get the child iter (the iter pointing to the base model) from $iter (the current iter pointing to the modelsort).
  2. Update the value to the child model (the base model) using the child iter.
