Sample Code 356: How to have the same height for all rows in GtkTreeView - Part 2 - set_fixed_height_from_font?

Problem

Suppose you have set up some cells of a GtkTreeView with multiple lines as outlined in How to have multiple lines in a cell of GtkTreeView - Part 1?.

By default, PHP-GTK2 will autofit the height of each row based on the number of lines of each cell as shown below:

How to have multiple lines in a cell of GtkTreeView - Part 1?

Suppose you would like to have the same height for all rows in the treeview.

In Part 1, we used the method GtkCellRenderer::set_fixed_size().

In this Part 2, we used the method GtkCellRendererText::set_fixed_height_from_font(). Note that this method gives a much better "fit" as compared to method 1. You do not need to calculate the exact height of the rows in pixels becuase PHP-GTK2 will automatically adjust the height depending on the size of the font as shown below:

How to have the same height for all rows in GtkTreeView - Part 2 - set_fixed_height_from_font?

Solution
  • To set the height of each row, use the method GtkCellRendererText::set_fixed_height_from_font(no. of rows)').

Important Note: This only works for PHP-GTK2 compliled with gtk+ v2.10 and above. If you are using an older version, for linux, you may follow the step-by-step instructions to recompile php-gtk2 with gtk+ v2.10. For windows, please refer to How to install php gtk2 on windows? Explanation

We make use of the code from How to display a 2D array in GtkTreeView - Part 5 - get user selection?

What's new here:

  1. Set all rows to height equivalent to 3 rows of text.
