329. How to display grid lines in GtkTreeView - Part 1 - liststore?

Problem

You would like to display grid lines in a GtkTreeView as shown below. In this Part 1, we show a treeview with a liststore (i.e. a linear list).

Solution

  • Set up the treeview with liststore as outlined in How to display a 2D array in GtkTreeView - Part 5 - get user selection?
  • To add the grid lines, use this method (available in gtk+2.10 and above): GtkTreeView::set_grid_lines()
  • The constants available are:
    • Gtk::TREE_VIEW_GRID_LINES_NONE
    • Gtk::TREE_VIEW_GRID_LINES_HORIZONTAL
    • Gtk::TREE_VIEW_GRID_LINES_VERTICAL
    • Gtk::TREE_VIEW_GRID_LINES_BOTH

Important Note: This only works for PHP-GTK2 compliled with gtk+ v2.10 and above. What's new here:

  1. Display grid lines for the treeview.
  2. Comment out this line and see what happens.

Note

If you have commented out the line as in Note 2 above, you will see that when you display the rows with alternate row colors, the horizontal grid lines will not be visible as shown below:
