Problem This is contributed by Dysmas de Lassus of France.
We've learned how to drag and drop items between two treeviews in How to drag and drop between 2 GtkTreeViews - Part 1 - left to right? In that example, all the items dragged and dropped from left to right are appended to the end of the right treeview.
Dysmas extended the code to allow insert of items in between the rows. For example, if you drop "row2" onto "row8", or into the space between "row7" and "row8", row2 will be inserted after row7 and before row8 as shown below.

Solution
- Dysmas makes use of a new GtkTreeView method GtkTreeView::get_dest_row_at_pos(x, y) available in gtk+ v2.10 and above.
- This method returns an array containing 2 elements. The first element is the path of the row. The second element is the drop position relative to the row of the position specified by x and y.
- With these two infomation, we use GtkListStore::insert() to insert the item into the treeview on the right.
Important Note: This only works for PHP-GTK2 compliled with gtk+ v2.10 and above. If you are using an older version, for linux, you may follow the step-by-step instructions to recompile php-gtk2 with gtk+ v2.10. For windows, please refer to How to install php gtk2 on windows? Explanation We make use of the code from How to drag and drop between 2 GtkTreeViews - Part 1 - left to right?
What's new here:
- Get the drop information.
- Get the path and position of the drop information.
- Check whether it's on, before or after the row.
- If it's on or before, we insert into the current row.
- If it's after, we insert into the next row (i.e. current_row + 1).
- If it's not on, before or after, we append the item to the end of the treeview.
