Problem

You would like to selectively highlight certain rows of a GtkTreeView based on some criteria as shown below:

How to selectively highlight rows in GtkTreeView?

Solution
  • Set up the user-defined cell-display function with GtkCelllayout::set_cell_data_func().
  • For default view, just display using alternate row color.
  • For other views, test the condition first and set the row color accordingly.

Explanation

The above code is based on How to display a 2D array in GtkTreeView - Part 5 - get user selection?.

We also make use of the codes in How to set up menu and radio menu - Part 3 - add accelerators? to display a menu with accelerators so that we use Ctrl-1, Ctrl-2 and Ctrl-3 to switch between the three views.

What's new here:

  1. Default view - use alternate row color.
  2. Highlight all the rows with qty > 10.
  3. Highlight all the rows with price < $10.
  4. Force an update of the treeview - so that the highlight gets displayed.

Note

Compare this with How to selectively display rows in GtkTreeView with GtkTreeModelFilter - Part 1? and How to selectively highlight some cells in GtkTreeView?
