- User registration will make a lot of possible commentators turn back before beiing willing to go thru a registration process. I have been turned back a good bunch of time...

your comments are broken :
- it is my name (not my nickname) that is displayed actually on my post, and if no cache is in place, it doesn't refresh dynamically on profile change.
- my php code was cut out (because of bad characters ?).
- i can't edit my previous message.
- i can't post a new comment because there's a 10 minutes lock against flood filter.

I haven't met any comment on your pages since the first day I've found your site. I hope you'll consider opening a little bit your code and the comments...

(I know this site is in heavy developpment ! I hope that my feedback will have some use).

Your site is a reference for php-gtk programmer as far as I can say. Try not lock it up too much please. (I don't think showing half the code or scrambled code will bring you money, but beiing a reference will (adv,books,consultancy,donations) and this is much simplier because there are others like me that are willing to participate by commenting or posting other recipes on your site).

These are my 2 bucks... I know that my perspective is mine and it is not flawless... good luck whatever is your choice.

Thanks much for your comments. I understand what you're trying to say, especially about the user registration part. However, please allow me to do a bit of explanations too...

First of all, if I'm in for money, I won't even set up this site.

If I don't have the passion for php-gtk2, I wouldn't have spent my time writing one sample code every day for the past one year. That's how you get 400+ free sample codes on this web site.

I'm doing this as my hobby, only after work, at night, after my kids go to bed.

If you have set up your own website, you will know how rampant the spam is now. The previous version of this site allows free posting of comments in the recipes page and the blog. They're flooded with spams, and I spent a lot of time cleaning the spam messages everyday. I do not have the luxury of people helping me maintain this site.

I know the registration part will turn away a lot of people. But I'm not going after traffic or visitors. That's not my purpose. All I want is a place where I can freely share sample codes with like-minded people who enjoy programming php-gtk2 too. I want to focus on sharing more with this group of people, as oppose to fighting spams. Hence the registration process and the posting of comments by registered users only.

Was wondering if the rest of the people feel the same with vaab? ...that I should remove the registration entirely?

Or do you have any other suggestions to help make this site a better and more user-friendly site?

kksou, I know what you mean when you talk about being flooded with spam. It is definitely worth it to me to have to register if it will make it easier for you to keep this extremely valuable site up and running. You have helped me out of many jams and I look forward to using this site in the future. Joe

i got registered today, well, just abt a few minutes back... hehe.

I have to say that its a good way to only allow registered people to comment and see 100% of the sample codes. I like the way you attracted me into registering here. Also, registering in this site only took me abt a minute! I think that's GREAT compared to some sites which try to get all the way upto ur great grand parents' information only to get registered.

So all in all, this site is cool. I like it the way it is. And so many thanks to you for doing such hard work just to educate ppl and not for an income.
