Include Content Item Module
Written by kksou

This module allows you to include content items into your module.

This is similar to the Custom Output in Joomla 1.0, or Custom HTML in Joomla 1.5. The main difference is that you can insert other content items or articles into the module content with {include_content_item 123},
where 123 is the ID of the content item to be included.
Note: The ID of the respective content item is listed in the Content Items Manager (or Article Manager in Joomla 1.5).

Very Important: This module makes use of the Include Content Item plugin. So please make sure you have installed this plugin too for this module to work.

Also, make sure you have upgraded your Include Content Item Plugin to the latest v1.02/1.52 (released July 23, 2008).

Latest Version

v1.0.2 (for Joomla 1.0) and v1.5.2 (for Joomla 1.5)
Released January 20, 2010

Fixed the error in PHP 5.3 "Warning: Parameter 2 to plgContentinclude_content_item::onPrepareContent() expected to be a reference, value given in libraries/joomla/event/event.php on line 67". Thanks to tekfix for highlighting this.

How to install

  1. First, make sure you have installed the plugin Include Content Item plugin. This module DOES NOT work without the Include Content Item plugin.
  2. Download and install the Include Content Item module.
  3. Make sure the module is published / enabled.
  4. Select a module position where you want to place the module.
  5. Go to Module Manager and click on "Include Content Item Module".
  6. In the parameter "Content", enter the content for the module in plain HTML. Note that this is not a WYSIWYG editor. You have to enter everything in plain HTML.
  7. Where you want to include a content, use the following syntax:
    • Standard use: {include_content_item 123}
    • To add the title of the included article: {include_content_item 123 1}
    • To add the title and link to the included article: {include_content_item 123 1 1}

    Parameter #1: id of the content/article to be included
    Parameter #2: 1 means show title, 0 or ignore means don't show title.
    Parameter #3: 1 means show title and link. 0 or ignore means don't show title and link.

Tips and Techniques

  • If you also have the DirectPHP plugin installed, you can include PHP commands in the included content item, or in the content area of the module. However, make sure that in the Plugin Manager, the DirectPHP plugin is listed after the Include Content Item plugin so that the content item is included followed by the processing by DirectPHP.
  • If you need to create more modules using this plugin, go to Module Manager, check the "Include Content Item Module", and click the "Copy" button on the top right of the page.
  • You can also use this module to copy and paste your Google Adsense code direct into the content area of the module.
